In a world that bombards us with sales and discounts, the allure of Black Friday can be overwhelming. But this year, I’m taking a different stance. As a 40 year old on a zero-waste journey for over a year now, I’ve decided to boycott Black Friday and redefine my relationship with consumerism.
Picture this: hordes of shoppers flooding stores, each one hunting for the next bargain. It’s a frenzy, a race to the checkout fueled by the promise of slashed prices. But amidst the chaos, I find myself questioning the necessity of it all. Do I really need that shiny gadget or the latest fashion trend? The answer, more often than not, is a resounding no.
My journey to zero waste has taught me to value experiences over possessions and to be intentional about the things I bring into my life. Black Friday seems like the antithesis of these principles. It’s a day that encourages mindless consumption, contributing to the culture of overconsumption and waste.
So, this year, I’m opting out. Instead of chasing discounts, I’ll be savoring the simple joys of life – a cozy evening at home, a walk in the crisp autumn air, and the warmth of shared moments with loved ones.
Join me in redefining Black Friday, not as a day of frenzied shopping, but as an opportunity to reflect on our choices and embrace a more mindful, intentional way of living. Let’s break free from the consumerist shackles and make this Black Friday about conscious choices. After all, the most sustainable purchase is the one not made.
