Put Vinegar in Your Laundry for Whiter, Softer, Stain-Free Clothes

Ah, the wisdom of our grandmothers – those timeless practices passed down through generations that never seem to fail. I often find myself reminiscing about the days spent with my grandmother, watching her effortlessly tackle household chores with a few simple ingredients and a whole lot of know-how. One of her tried-and-true secrets? Vinegar in the laundry. Yes, you read that right – vinegar, that humble pantry staple, has the power to transform your laundry routine and leave your clothes looking brighter, feeling softer, and free of stubborn stains. Let me share with you the magic of incorporating vinegar into your laundry routine, just like Grandma used to do.

Vinegar is Great at Removing Stains

In the days before sophisticated detergents, my grandmother always used vinegar. Best of all, it still functions!

Just add ½ cup to 1 cup of vinegar to your laundry, depending on the size of the load and the severity of the stains.

Coffee spills, oil, red wine, and more can all be removed with this amazing pantry staple.

Cleaner Clothes & Whiter Whites

Did you know that if you pair vinegar with baking soda with vinegar, your clothes will come to a whole new level of ‘clean’.

All you need to do is add ½ cup of vinegar and pair it with just 1 tablespoon of baking soda. Use this mixture alongside your detergent. However, you need to pour it halfway through the wash cycle so it doesn’t just get ‘flushed away’ as your machine empties and refills.

Softer Clothes

Vinegar is also a great alternative for fabric softener if you love the soft cozy feeling of your clothes after washing, but without the chemical harshness of store bought fabric conditioners. It’s also a significantly cheaper solution!

No More Smelly Clothes

And whilst we are at it, Vinegar is great at removing the stubborn smells that can sometimes linger (think footy socks, jocks etc).

Depending on my load size, I like to use between 1/2 to 1 cup vinegar per load.

Conclusion

As I stand at my own washing machine, bottle of vinegar in hand, I can’t help but feel a sense of connection to my grandmother and the timeless wisdom she passed down to me. In a world filled with endless options for laundry products and detergents, sometimes the simplest solutions are the most effective. So, the next time you find yourself faced with a load of laundry in need of a little extra TLC, channel your inner grandma and reach for the vinegar – your clothes will thank you for it.
